Conventions, Seminars, Tours, Trade Show
MNLA holds a convention each
year, in early January, rotating between locations on the eastern and western
sides of the continental divide to take advantage of our two distinctly separate
market areas (see EVENTS for details on the
next convention). Nationally recognized experts are invited to address a wide
range of topics covering both horticulture and business management
interests. From time to time MNLA holds regional seminars on subjects of
special interests. MNLA members receive a substantial discount on registration
fees for all conventions and seminars. Each year a fall tour is scheduled to
allow members an opportunity to visit horticultural related businesses and
projects in Montana.
Referrals
MNLA is a contact point for retailers,
wholesalers, and the general public. We frequently provide specialized lists of
our members upon request, based upon information we have on file about the
member business. For example: lists are frequently requested for
wholesalers/re-wholesalers of specific plant materials or nursery goods,
certified plant professionals (CPPs), or geographical lists. To get the most out
of your MNLA membership, be sure to fill the membership application out
completely.
Legislative Representation
When needed, MNLA will lobby at the state
level for legislation favoring the horticulture industry in Montana. At
the national level we are represented by a legislative specialist on staff
at the American Nursery & Landscape Association in Washington, D.C.
Scholarships
MNLA approximately $2,000 in scholarships each year to Juniors, Seniors, and Graduate students. Applications
may be made by sophomores for grants to be awarded for the Junior year.
Scholarships will be considered for vo-tech, community college programs and
short courses on an individual basis and are available to any current Active
Montana Nursery & Landscape Association member or his/her immediate family
member enrolled in a horticulture-related college education program.

Certification
The Certified Plant Professional (CPP) Program was
created jointly with the Idaho Nursery Association (INA) to distinguish those
individuals having special, practical expertise in plant materials. The
certification test has two components, a written, multiple choice exam and a
plant identification exam. The two components may be taken separately or at the
same time, and each component is typically offered together in the fall and
winter. To be certified, individuals must pass both portions of the test.
Certified individuals are also required to renewal their certification every
five (5) years. See the CERTIFICATION
page for more information.
Financial Support of Our Industry
MNLA is a regular contributor to the Missoula
County Extension Service IPM program, as well as to other research efforts in
our region.
Recognition
MNLA provides recognition to both individuals and
companies contributing substantially to horticulture in Montana. In some cases,
recognition is provided through award nominations, research contributions, and
donations, as well as awards. MNLA currently presents a Member of the Year Award
annually.
Discounted Educational Materials
MNLA offers educational materials for
industry professionals as well as industry customers to MNLA members at
discounted rates. We're committed to helping you succeed in business. See our
PRODUCTS page for information and updates.
Member Publications
The Leaflet- Our newsletter is published quarterly and contains
information on our organization, recent developments in the nursery industry,
research findings, business management tips, recent and upcoming legislative
actions (on both the state and federal levels), new products and news of our
members.
Annual Membership Directory & Buyer's Guide

business names, contacts, address information, phone numbers, and a brief
description of the business. Advertising is also available to members and the
